Our School
Burton-on-the-Wolds Primary School is a small rural school, approximately 4 miles from Loughborough, Leicestershire. There are 148 children on roll. Our children come from Burton, Prestwold, Cotes, Hoton and Walton villages and the surrounding catchment area. 6% of the children come from elsewhere, some from as far away as Barrow and Hathern. Traveller children, from a showmen site within our catchment area, make up 3% of the school’s roll, attending for varying degrees of the school year.
The children come from a wide range of backgrounds although most have pre-school experience in playgroup or nursery. Following their Reception year and six full years of education at Burton on the Wolds, children then transfer to a variety of secondary schools. The predominant of these is Humphrey Perkins in Barrow-on-Soar although Harry Carlton, De Lisle and the Loughborough private schools attract a few of our leaving children.
Burton-on-the-Wolds Primary School has a clear statement of aims, putting particular emphasis on the development of each individual child socially as well as academically within a caring, supportive environment.
Over the last year we have been developing our outdoor environment as a fabulouus educational resource. We are also very proud of our school radio station which is run by the children.
In March 2010 the school underwent a HMI subject inspection in Literacy and achieved good in all areas.
We are very proud of our school. A hard working committed staff dedicated to children; a supportive Governing Body overseeing the running of the school in a very professional manner; trusting parents who give a great deal to the school and children who care for and respect themselves and everyone else in the school family.
We are also involved within the Barrow Family of Schools, Barrow Extended Services Team and Link 77 who provide great support for our growing school.
